Here’s how you’re making a difference

Cancer Council Victoria's Wig Service

At Cancer Council we believe it’s so important to show you just how vital Relay For Life is in our mission to prevent cancer, empower patients and save lives. As a community-funded organisation, we rely on the generosity of thousands of donors, fundraisers and volunteers to fund our much-needed research and programs.

Though some cancer statistics can be confronting - more than 31,600 Victorians are diagnosed each year - five-year survival rates are now at 67%. This is the highest they have ever been - just two decades ago this figure was 48%. This increase is largely due to breakthroughs in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, that can only happen because of people like Relayers.

You, our supporter, have made a real difference to thousands to thousands of Victorian lives. Here's a bit more information about how you are helping us:

  • $5 can pay for an information pack to be sent to women and men coping with the aftermath of cancer treatment
  • $10 can provide five schools with an information guide on how to respond when someone in the school community is affected by cancer
  • $25 can help us update GPs and other help professionals with the latest evidence about cancer prevention, screening and diagnosis
  • $50 can help book a holiday break for a family so they can create memories with loved ones
  • $100 can help a cancer nurse give free and confidential information and support on all aspects of cancer via Cancer Council 13 11 20
  • $360 can purchase four wigs that we can provide to cancer patients for free
  • $500 can train two volunteers for our Cancer Connect phone peer support service
  • $5000 can give a research team access to vital chemicals for experiments.

*Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible. Funds are used to support programs including, but not restricted to, the ones described here.

Are you a Survivor or Carer?

Every Relay For Life begins with an Opening Lap to celebrate and support cancer Survivors and their Carers. All Survivors and Carers are welcome to join in—you don't even need to be part of a team. We hope you can join us.
