My Reason to Relay:

On 24th July 2013, one month before my youngest son turned 1 year of age, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. When given

the stats, chances of surviving after 5 years was slim. At one point, I was told, due to dark marks all over my lungs, I may not see my youngest's 1st day of school.
After surgery, upon surgery, chemo & radiation, I can now stand tall after passing my 5 year mark on our 10th Wedding anniversary last month. I have also been told the dark spots all over my lungs has gone (which they cant really understand), but I can.
I want to walk to show others you can beat it. I want to walk to say thanks to my wonderful family who carried me through. My Mum and Dad who gave up so much to come to Australia to raise my children when I couldn't. My husband who is and always will be my rock. The beautiful friends I made when I first came to Australia who after not knowing me long at all, supported me with so much strength.
I walk too, with Leanne Russo, who is no longer with us, loosing her battle to this horrible disease but I know will be there in spirit.
Our team is called 'Footprints' due to the poem my Mum had in our kitchen when I was younger and it is one I will always hold dear to my heart.  If you look this poem up and read it you will understand why.  But during one of my biggest surgeries, I was in the Pre-Op room alone waiting for them to come back once they were set up to start administering my meds to put me to sleep.  As I lay there I started to become very scared and then I started shaking so much as the full reality of what was about to happen really set in.  It was at this time, I looked up and prayed.  I thought of my poem and I said 'God please, I need you now more than ever.  Please lift me up and carry me through this as I just cant do it on my own ..... .instantly my body relaxed and I felt the calmest I have ever felt in my life.  And that is why I we are called Footprints
